HEARTS EMS – ECG Essentials for Paramedics

ECG interpretation for practicing Paramedics What to expect before the course begins: When you sign up for this course, you will receive the HEARTS EMS manual 1-week prior to the start of the course. This book will cover the fundamentals of an ECG and explain the HEARTS approach in detail. You will also receive pre and post-workshop quizzes to text your own knowledge. What to expect in the course: This course will be completed in one full session (~6 hours total including breaks). This course will briefly cover the HEARTS approach to ECG interpretation and focus on clinical ECG interpretation in guiding management (i.e., the best next step). In the first session, you will briefly learn the fundamentals of the HEARTS approach and understand how the approach can be used for physiologic and pathophysiologic correlation. In the second session, you will be exposed to high-yield ECG cases, iteratively apply the HEARTS approach, and learn key clinical pearls for each case. This course will focus on difficult arrhythmia and false negative and false positive STEMIs, with an introduction to Occlusion Mysocardial Infarctions (OMIs) – which is covered in more details in HEARTS Advanced EM. Overarching goals of the course include: 1. Physiologic and pathophysiologic correlates to ECG findings; 2. HEARTS approach to ECG interpretation; and 3. Applying the HEARTS approach to high yield real clinical cases; and 4. Take away key clinical pearls that can be applied in the real world. WHERE: the course will be provided on ZOOM.
